Keep Getting Cold Hands?

Keep Getting Cold Hands? We have the answer, and It’s not a New Jacket

If you are feeling the chill on those winter walks, a new fancy jacket probably isn’t the answer. Just 3 pairs of gloves that will keep your hands warm all year round. Here are our 3 favourites to keep your hands warm this winter.

Glove Liners

Often overlooked, Glove liners are often the most important piece of the system. Materials like Silk and Merino offer fantastic insulation while staying warm when damp, the best liners are thin, light and quick drying. Perfect for wicking away sweat while still giving you good dexterity.

Avoid cotton, as it traps moisture and chills your hands quickly. And make sure the fit is right, too big and they’ll bunch up uncomfortably, too small and they’ll restrict circulation, making your hands even colder.

Insulating Layer

The 2nd layer is key, often used without a liner, the insulating layer is perfect for keeping your hands warm. Look for something with good insulation like PrimaLoft with a robust outer fabric. This layer keeps out windchill and low temperatures that is inevitable when heading upwards into the hills. Depending on sizing, it may be better to size up to allow for more space in the glove.

Waterproof Outer

Changeable winter weather means you need to be ready for sideways rain on almost every walk. That’s why carrying a waterproof outer glove is so important. Keeping your insulating dry and therefor warm, they are essential for keeping your hands toasty.

Materials like GORE-TEX are the best for outers and they are waterproof but also breathable preventing your hands from becoming sweaty and clammy.

Best as an overmitt, the outer should be light and packable, taking up very little room in your rucksack.

Why this system Works?

The beauty of the glove layering system is its versatility; it keeps your hands comfortable no matter what the weather throws at you. The Liner acts like an insulating base-layer and is greater for warmer autumn and spring walks. When used with the Insulating layer, warm air is trapped, and your hands warm up instantly. The waterproof outer is great for rain and wind, and you’ve got a setup that keeps your hands warm and dry even on the coldest winter days.

When layered correctly Gloves can make a much difference as a new Jacket but only cost half as much. It’s the perfect solution for those who value function over fashion when out in the hills.
